In response to requests from customers who wish to send longer text messages, we offer a long message feature as part of our e>text service. This means that users will no longer have to squeeze their messages into 160 characters, but can send whatever length messages they choose.

Initially, we have set the feature to accommodate up to three SMS segments, which will support a message of up to 459 characters. However, so that you may customise the service to suit your own needs, we have provided the facility to increase or decrease the number of segments the service will support, to increase the message length to 750 characters (5 SMS segments) or decrease to 160 characters (1 SMS segment).

You can now set your account so that e>text messages will use between 1 and 5 message segments. Whatever maximum length you select, e>text messages will always remove any text after your "End of Message Indicators" e.g. your signature or disclaimers. When someone receives a long message, if they have a newer model of mobile phone, the e>text will appear as a single message. If they have an older model, it will appear as a set of linked messages with "LINKED 1/3", "LINKED 2/3" and "LINKED 3/3" in each segment of the message. Messages will be charged according to how many segments they comprise.
